Medical Simulations for the Healthcare Industry

Medical simulation is a branch of simulation technology related to education and training in medical fields of various industries. It can involve:

  • Simulated human patients
  • Educational documents with detailed simulated animations
  • Casualty assessment in homeland security and military situations
  • Emergency response

Its main purpose is to train medical professionals to reduce accidents during surgery, prescription, and general practice.

Adoption Challenges for Medical Simulations

One challenge for simulation sponsors to be prepared for is that some medical professionals are skeptical about simulation, saying that medicine, surgery, and general healing skills are too complex to simulate accurately. But technological advances in the past two decades have made it possible to simulate practices from yearly family doctor visits to complex operations such as heart surgery.

Medical Simulation Example

This procedural trainer was developed for the Medical College of Georgia and, funded through a grant by Nobel Biocare.

A real-time 3D medical training simulation
The application was created to better teach and train students and professionals patient assessment and diagnosis protocol and to practice procedures in a realistic, virtual, 3D, environment.
